Unit transformation taxonomies showing incremental changes in the variables we’re playing with accompanied by the transformation strands they create. The first two maintain a pure packing principle in that units connect to other units in 3 axis. The last begins to explore opening up the packing by creating units which connect to other units in only 2 axis.




These tests of different strategies to engage the packing transformations are now a bit old, but lets get them up here anyways.

The first board examines the relationship between the rate of transition (red in diagram) from one unit to another versus the total length of the transition (black in diagram).

The second introduces 2 axis of transformation on the same field (black in diagram) and the relationship of the directionality of the oblique to the transformation (red in diagram).

The final board examines the results of overlapping the system of transformation in 2 axis onto the same units, both symmetrically and not (black in diagram), along with the oblique (red in diagram).


A few studies of how to transform a cube into an octahedron, then how they work packed into an aggregated field which also preferences an oblique trajectory through it.

A dance is played out as consumer and seller meet in the market place. Attraction occurs at the expense of the buyer.


Elastic Landscapes

A visualization of the psychological, elastic forces which direct a spatial choreography of attraction between the related entities of child, adult, and object. Local behaviors are modeled using a particle/attractor system and lead to new and unexpected global results. A cultural distinction is also drawn between national and foreign child/adult pairs in terms of how they behave in the field.

Processing Sketch
